Digital dentistry means using scanners, 3D imaging, design software, milling machines and 3D printers in place of putty impressions, plaster models and hand-made restorations. It is a way of working that runs through implants, crowns, aligners and dentures, not a separate treatment.
Its benefits are accuracy, speed and the ability to preview a result before teeth are touched. It does not replace clinical judgement: a poorly planned crown is still a poor crown, however it was scanned. Newer tools such as robot-assisted implant placement and AI reading of X-rays are promising aids, but evidence that they improve outcomes over a skilled clinician with a guide is still limited.

Is a digital scan more accurate than an impression?
For single teeth and short bridges it is at least as accurate and far more comfortable. For full arches on implants, many clinics add verification steps.
Is a CBCT scan safe?
The dose is low but not trivial, roughly that of several to many ordinary dental X-rays depending on the machine. It is justified for implants and surgery, not as a routine screen.
Are robot-placed implants better?
They can be very accurate, but well-made static guides are also accurate. Long-term success depends more on planning, bone and hygiene.
Are same-day crowns as good as laboratory crowns?
For single back teeth they perform well. Highly aesthetic front teeth often still benefit from a ceramist's hand layering.
