Orthopaedic traumatology is the care of injuries to bones, joints and the soft tissues around them: fractures, dislocations, and tendon and ligament ruptures, from a simple wrist break to a shattered pelvis after a road accident.
It includes emergency treatment and also the reconstruction of injuries that went wrong: fractures that did not heal, healed crooked or became infected. The emergency part must happen where the injury occurs; the reconstructive part can be planned.

Tests, die Ihnen möglicherweise angeboten werden
- X-rays: First line for any suspected fracture.
- CT with 3D reconstruction: Joint, pelvic and spinal fractures and planning of corrective surgery.
- MRI: Hidden fractures, ligament injuries and bone infection.
- Blood tests and tissue cultures: Inflammatory markers and deep samples to identify bacteria in infected non-union.
- Assessment of healing capacity: Vitamin D, diabetes control, smoking status, nutrition and medication review.
- Vascular studies: Doppler or CT angiography when circulation is in doubt.
Behandlungen verfügbar
- Casts, braces and functional treatment: For stable fractures.
- Internal fixation: Plates, screws and intramedullary nails.
- External fixation: Temporary stabilisation or definitive frame treatment.
- Non-union surgery: Removal of scar tissue, stable re-fixation and bone graft from the pelvis.
- Corrective osteotomy: Realignment of malunited bones.
- Infection surgery: Thorough debridement, implant exchange, local and intravenous antibiotics, often in stages.
- Bone transport and the induced membrane technique: Rebuild segments of missing bone over months.

Wann Sie eine Fachmeinung einholen sollten
- Any injury with deformity, inability to bear weight or a wound over a suspected fracture, which needs emergency care
- A fracture still painful and mobile after 4 to 6 months
- A limb that healed visibly bent, rotated or short
- A wound over metalwork that drains or will not close
- Loss of joint motion months after a fracture
Reisen nach Türkiye für diese Pflege
Do not travel for a fresh fracture; get it treated locally and promptly. If you are injured while in Türkiye, emergency care is provided at the nearest suitable hospital, and help with translation, insurance and repatriation paperwork is useful. Planned travel makes sense for non-union, malunion and chronic bone infection, where an experienced team matters. These often need more than one operation and months of follow-up, so send all X-rays, operation notes and culture results in advance and agree shared care with a doctor at home.

Häufig gestellte Fragen
Why has my fracture not healed?
Usual reasons are too much movement at the fracture, poor blood supply, a gap, infection, smoking, diabetes or low vitamin D. Often several apply together.
Is low grade infection possible without fever?
Yes. Infected non-unions can be quiet, with only pain and failure to heal. Deep tissue samples at surgery settle the question.
Can I be flown home with a fracture?
Often yes after stabilisation, with airline medical clearance. Casts may need splitting and leg injuries need clot prevention.
