Laser hair removal uses pulses of light absorbed by the pigment in the hair to heat and disable the follicle, reducing hair growth in the long term.
It works only on hairs in their growth phase, so it takes a course of sessions spread over many months. That makes it a poor fit for a single trip, and we say so plainly.
What Laser Hair Removal involves
The area is shaved, the skin is cooled and a handpiece delivers pulses across it. The laser type is matched to your skin: alexandrite for light skin, diode for a wide range, and Nd:YAG for dark skin, where a longer wavelength passes the pigment in the skin more safely.
Who is a good candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
The ideal is dark hair on lighter skin, though modern lasers treat most combinations.
- Dark, coarse hair
- Any skin tone, provided the right laser is used
- Ingrown hairs and shaving rash
- Able to attend sessions every four to eight weeks
It is usually not the right choice if:
- Blonde, grey, white or red hair, which has too little pigment to respond
- Recently tanned skin or fake tan
- Pregnancy, as a precaution
- Medication that makes the skin light-sensitive, or active skin disease in the area
- Visiting once and expecting a lasting result
Technique options
- Alexandrite, 755 nm: fast and effective on light skin
- Diode, 805 to 810 nm: versatile, suits light to medium-dark skin
- Nd:YAG, 1064 nm: the safest choice for dark skin
- IPL: not a laser; less selective and generally less effective
What happens during your treatment
Small areas take 15 minutes and legs or back up to an hour. Each pulse feels like the snap of an elastic band. The skin is pink and the follicles slightly raised for a few hours.
Preparing for your trip
A course is six to eight sessions, four to eight weeks apart, followed by occasional maintenance. Unless you live in Türkiye or visit regularly, it is more sensible to have this at home. It can be started in Istanbul if the same type of laser is available to you later.
- Tell the doctor about medication, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any history of cold sores, keloid scars or autoimmune disease
- Avoid alcohol, aspirin and anti-inflammatory painkillers for a few days beforehand if your own doctor agrees, to reduce bruising
- Arrive without make-up on the treatment area and avoid sunbeds and strong sun for two weeks before
Recovery and results
There is no downtime. Avoid sun, heat, saunas and perfumed products for 48 hours. Treated hairs shed over one to three weeks. Do not wax or pluck between sessions; shaving is fine.
- Back to everyday activity: None
- When results show: After 2 to 3 sessions
- How long they last: Long-term reduction; yearly maintenance
Safety, risks and revision policy
Most problems come from the wrong device or settings for the skin type:
- Redness and swelling around follicles for a day
- Burns, blisters or crusting
- Darkening or lightening of the skin, usually temporary
- Paradoxical increase in fine hair nearby, which is uncommon and mostly affects the face and neck
- Eye injury if protective eyewear is not used

Cost of Laser Hair Removal in Türkiye
Clinic-Y does not publish a single price for Laser Hair Removal, because the honest figure depends on your case. What moves it:
- The product or device used and how much of it your treatment needs
- Who performs it: a doctor's time costs more than a technician's
- The number of sessions in the course
- Whether it is combined with other treatments in the same visit
Send your photographs or reports and you receive written, all-inclusive proposals from suitable teams, side by side. Reviewing your case is free.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is laser hair removal permanent?
It gives long-term reduction, typically 70 to 90 per cent after a full course. Some regrowth, finer and lighter, is normal, and hormones can bring hair back.
Is it worth starting during a holiday in Türkiye?
Only if you can continue the course. One or two sessions alone will not give a lasting result.
Which laser is right for dark skin?
Nd:YAG. Ask which device will be used before you book.
