Liposuction removes localised fat from under the skin using thin hollow tubes called cannulas connected to suction. It reshapes areas such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs, hips, back, arms and chin that do not respond to diet and exercise.
It changes contour and proportion, and the fat cells removed do not come back. It is not a weight loss treatment, it does not remove cellulite or the fat around the internal organs, and it does not tighten loose skin.
What Liposuction involves
You are marked standing. Through cuts of 3 to 4 millimetres placed in creases, the surgeon infiltrates tumescent fluid, a salt solution with local anaesthetic and adrenaline that firms the fat and limits bleeding. After it has taken effect, a cannula is passed back and forth in a fan pattern through the deep fat layer, working from several entry points so that the result is even. A thin layer of fat is left under the skin to avoid dents. The volume removed is measured, and the two sides are compared. The small cuts are stitched or left open to drain and a compression garment is put on before you wake.
Who is a good candidate for Liposuction?
The best results are in adults within about 30 percent of their ideal weight with firm, elastic skin.
- Stubborn fat pockets that are out of proportion to the rest of the body
- Stable weight for at least 6 months
- Good skin tone that will shrink after fat is removed
- Non-smokers in good general health
- Lipoedema or lipomas, in selected cases
It is usually not the right choice if:
- Obesity or the hope of losing many kilograms
- Loose, stretch-marked skin, which may look worse once emptied
- Cellulite as the main complaint
- A bulging abdomen caused by fat around the organs or muscle separation
- Heart or lung disease, clotting disorders or pregnancy
Technique options
- Tumescent suction-assisted liposuction: The standard method on which the others are based.
- Power-assisted (PAL): A vibrating cannula speeds work in larger and fibrous areas and reduces surgeon fatigue.
- Ultrasound-assisted (VASER): Emulsifies fat first. Used for fibrous areas, revision cases and high-definition sculpting.
- Laser-assisted: Used for small areas. No clear advantage in results over standard methods.
- Liposuction 360 and fat transfer: Treats the whole trunk circumferentially; the fat may be reused for buttock or breast grafting.
What happens during your treatment
The operation takes 1 to 3 hours depending on the number of areas. Small areas can be done under local tumescent anaesthetic; most multi-area procedures use sedation or general anaesthetic. You go home the same day or stay one night. Expect soreness like a deep bruise and leakage of pink fluid from the cuts for a day or two.
Preparing for your trip
Plan for 5 to 8 days in Istanbul. Your surgeon reviews photographs and your medical history before you book, and you meet in person the day before surgery for examination, marking and consent with a professional interpreter.
- Stop smoking and nicotine at least four weeks before and after surgery; it is the single biggest avoidable cause of wound problems
- Tell the team about every medicine and supplement you take; blood thinners, some herbal products and hormone treatment may need to be paused on your doctor's advice
- Arrange for someone to travel with you or to be reachable, and keep the first days at home free of work and lifting
- Book a changeable return flight; your surgeon confirms when you are fit to fly
Recovery and results
Bruising peaks in the first week and fades by 3 weeks. Swelling takes longer: you may not look slimmer until 4 to 6 weeks. A compression garment is worn for 4 to 6 weeks. Desk work is usually possible after 3 to 7 days and exercise after 2 to 4 weeks. Numb or firm patches settle over 2 to 3 months. The final shape is seen at 3 to 6 months.
- Back to everyday activity: 3 to 7 days
- When results show: Visible at 4 to 6 weeks; final at 3 to 6 months
- How long they last: Long lasting with stable weight
Safety, risks and revision policy
Liposuction is common but it is real surgery, and risk rises with the volume removed and the number of areas.
- Contour irregularities, waviness or dents
- Asymmetry or under-correction needing a touch-up
- Seroma or prolonged swelling
- Numbness or skin discolouration, usually temporary
- Loose skin where elasticity is poor
- Infection
- Deep vein thrombosis, fat embolism or fluid overload, rare but serious
- Perforation of the abdominal wall or an organ, very rare
Every written proposal arranged through Clinic-Y states what the clinic covers if a correction is needed. Ask for it before you book, not after.
Cost of Liposuction in Türkiye
Clinic-Y does not publish a single price for Liposuction, because the honest figure depends on your case. What moves it:
- Number and size of areas treated
- Technique and equipment used
- Anaesthesia type and any overnight stay
- Combination with tummy tuck, fat transfer or other surgery
- Garments, medication and follow-up
Send your photographs or reports and you receive written, all-inclusive proposals from suitable teams, side by side. Reviewing your case is free.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much fat can be removed?
Most safety guidelines set about 5 litres of total aspirate as the limit for one session. Removing more increases the risk of fluid and blood pressure problems.
Will the fat come back?
The removed cells do not regrow. If you gain weight, remaining fat cells enlarge everywhere, including the treated areas, though usually less there.
Will it fix my cellulite or loose skin?
No. Cellulite comes from fibrous bands in the skin, and loose skin needs lifting surgery.
When can I fly?
Short flights are usually fine after 3 to 5 days, long-haul after about a week. Wear your garment, drink water and walk during the flight.
