Thread Lift

A thread lift repositions mildly sagging cheeks, jowls or brows with dissolvable barbed sutures passed under the skin through needle punctures, without cutting or removing skin.

The lift is modest and temporary. Threads suit early laxity in people not ready for surgery; they do not reproduce a facelift, and they are not risk-free.

What Thread Lift involves

After local anaesthetic, threads with tiny barbs or cones are introduced on a long cannula through an entry point near the hairline, advanced along a planned path and then tightened so the barbs catch and lift the tissue. The threads dissolve over six to eighteen months and stimulate some collagen along their track.

Who is a good candidate for Thread Lift?

Thin, light tissue lifts best.

• Early jowls or softening of the jawline
• Mild descent of the cheeks or outer brow
• Reasonably good skin quality and not much excess skin
• Typically thirties to fifties

It is usually not the right choice if:

• Heavy or markedly loose skin, which threads cannot hold and which needs a facelift
• Very thin skin, where threads may show or pucker
• Autoimmune disease, a keloid tendency or active infection
• Expecting a result that lasts for years

• Dimpling, puckering or visible threads
• Asymmetry or a lift that relaxes early
• Thread migration or extrusion through the skin
• Infection or a reaction around the thread
• Injury to a nerve or the salivary gland, which is rare
• Scar tissue that makes a later facelift more difficult
