Ceramic braces are fixed braces whose brackets are made of tooth-coloured or translucent ceramic instead of stainless steel. They move teeth in the same way as metal braces, with an archwire held in each bracket, but are far less visible at conversational distance.
They can treat the same range of crowding, spacing and bite problems as metal braces, which removable aligners cannot always match. The brackets are bulkier and more brittle, create a little more friction, and orthodontic treatment of any kind takes many months of regular adjustments.
What Ceramic Braces involves
Records come first: photographs, a digital scan or impressions, a panoramic X-ray and a side skull X-ray. At the fitting visit the teeth are polished, etched and primed, and each bracket is bonded with light-cured resin at a planned height. A thin flexible nickel-titanium wire is tied in with clear ties or clipped into self-ligating brackets. Every 4 to 8 weeks the wires are changed for progressively stiffer ones, bends are added, and elastics may be worn between the jaws to correct the bite. At the end the brackets are removed with special pliers, the remaining resin is polished away, and fixed or removable retainers are fitted.
Who is a good candidate for Ceramic Braces?
Popular with adults and older teenagers who need fixed braces but want them discreet.
- Moderate to severe crowding, rotations or bite problems that aligners handle poorly
- Adults and teenagers with good brushing habits
- People who would not reliably wear removable aligners 22 hours a day
- Upper teeth only in ceramic with metal on the lower arch, as a common compromise
It is usually not the right choice if:
- Untreated gum disease or tooth decay, which must be treated first
- A deep bite where lower ceramic brackets would be hit by, and wear down, the upper teeth
- People who grind heavily or play contact sport without a mouthguard
- Anyone who cannot attend adjustments every 4 to 8 weeks for the full course
- Jaw size discrepancies that need orthognathic surgery as well
الخيارات التقنية
- Polycrystalline ceramic: Tooth-coloured, opaque brackets; strong and the most commonly used.
- Monocrystalline (sapphire): Glass-clear brackets that take on the shade of the tooth; more brittle.
- Self-ligating ceramic: A built-in clip holds the wire, so there are no elastic ties to stain.
- Tooth-coloured coated wires: Improve appearance further, though the coating can wear.
- Lingual braces or aligners: Alternatives when even ceramic brackets are too visible.
ماذا يحدث خلال علاجك
Bonding takes 60 to 90 minutes and needs no anaesthetic. Teeth ache for 3 to 5 days after fitting and for a day or two after each adjustment. Brackets can rub the lips and cheeks at first; orthodontic wax helps. Adjustment visits take 15 to 30 minutes.
الإعداد لرحلتك
Treatment lasts 12 to 30 months with visits every 4 to 8 weeks, so it only suits people who live in or regularly visit Istanbul. Flying in for the fitting alone is a poor plan unless an orthodontist at home has agreed to take over the adjustments.
- Tell the doctor about medication, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any history of cold sores, keloid scars or autoimmune disease
- Avoid alcohol, aspirin and anti-inflammatory painkillers for a few days beforehand if your own doctor agrees, to reduce bruising
- Arrive without make-up on the treatment area and avoid sunbeds and strong sun for two weeks before
التعافي والنتائج
There is no downtime. Eat soft food for the first few days and permanently avoid hard, sticky and chewy items that can snap a bracket. Brush after every meal, use interdental brushes and fluoride. Coffee, tea, red wine, curry and smoking stain the clear ties between visits, not the brackets themselves. After removal, retainers must be worn long term or the teeth will drift back.
- Back to everyday activity: None
- When results show: First changes in 4 to 8 weeks
- How long they last: Lasting if retainers are worn
سياسة السلامة والمخاطر والتنقيح
Risks are those of any fixed brace, plus a few particular to ceramic.
- White spot decalcification or decay around brackets if cleaning is poor
- Bracket fracture, which is more frequent than with metal
- Enamel wear on opposing teeth that bite against ceramic
- Small enamel damage on removal, which is uncommon with modern brackets
- Slight shortening of tooth roots, usually minor
- Gum inflammation during treatment
- Relapse if retainers are not worn

Cost of Ceramic Braces in Türkiye
Clinic-Y does not publish a single price for Ceramic Braces, because the honest figure depends on your case. What moves it:
- One arch or both, and ceramic on upper only versus both
- Bracket type: sapphire and self-ligating systems cost more
- Complexity and expected length of treatment
- Retainers and any replacement brackets
Send your photographs or reports and you receive written, all-inclusive proposals from suitable teams, side by side. Reviewing your case is free.
الأسئلة المتكررة
Do ceramic braces take longer than metal?
Sometimes by a few months in complex cases, because of higher friction. For many patients the difference is negligible.
Do they stain?
The brackets resist staining. The clear elastic ties discolour and are changed at each visit; self-ligating types avoid this.
Can I start in Türkiye and continue at home?
Only if an orthodontist at home agrees beforehand to continue with the same bracket system. Many decline transfer cases.
Are they more painful?
No. Pressure soreness is the same as with metal. They feel slightly bulkier on the lips.
