Clinical neuropsychology measures how the brain is functioning through standardised tests of memory, attention, language, visual skills, planning and mood. A neuropsychologist is a psychologist with specialist training in brain disorders.
Testing shows which abilities are affected and which are preserved. This helps with diagnosis, planning rehabilitation, decisions about work, study and driving, and surgical planning in epilepsy and tumours. It involves no scans, needles or medication.

Tests you may be offered
- Clinical interview: Covers education, work, symptoms and mood, often with a relative.
- Standardised test battery: Paper, verbal and computer tasks over 2 to 4 hours, compared with norms for your age and education.
- Mood and effort measures: Depression, anxiety, poor sleep and pain all reduce test scores and have to be taken into account.
- Assessments before DBS or epilepsy surgery: Establish a baseline and predict cognitive risk from the operation.
- Capacity assessment: For legal and financial decision-making.
Treatments available
- Cognitive rehabilitation: Training in strategies and memory aids that compensate for deficits.
- Psychological therapy: For adjustment, anxiety and depression after brain illness.
- Return to work or school planning: Graded timetables and practical adjustments.
- Family education: Explains behaviour and cognitive changes to the people around you.
- Repeat testing: After 6 to 12 months to measure change.
When to ask for a specialist opinion
- Memory or concentration problems with normal scans
- Difficulty returning to work after a head injury or stroke
- Before epilepsy surgery, tumour surgery or deep brain stimulation
- To distinguish early dementia from depression or normal ageing
Travelling to Türkiye for this care
Assessment takes half a day to a full day and a written report follows within 1 to 2 weeks, so it fits a visit. The major limit is language: tests are valid only in a language you speak fluently and with norms that suit your background, so ask what is available. Cognitive rehabilitation requires weekly sessions and is better arranged at home or online.
Send your reports, scans and a short history and a Clinic-Y coordinator replies within 24 hours with suitable teams and written, all-inclusive proposals side by side. Reviewing your case is free.
الأسئلة المتكررة
Can I fail the tests?
There is no pass or fail. The aim is a profile of strengths and weaknesses.
Should I prepare?
Sleep well, take your usual medication, and bring glasses and hearing aids. Do not practise test material.
Is it like an IQ test?
Only in part. Intelligence is one element; most of the testing concerns memory, attention and executive skills.
